Chris Blakeslee passed away unexpectedly on February 9, 2021. Chris was born in Portsmouth, NH on August 2, 1975 and grew up in South Berwick where he graduated from Marshwood High School and attended New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord, NH.

He was a much loved son of Karen Spillane, married to David Sanborn both of South Berwick, ME, and of his father, David Blakeslee, married to the former Karen Robblee both residing in Rowley, MA.

He has been a revered brother to Jonathan Blakeslee and his wife Joelle Guerard, of Eliot, ME and of Daniel Blakeslee of Providence, RI. He is also survived by step brother Steve Robblee his step sister Katie Robblee, along with several uncles, aunts and cousins.

He was largely self taught and very skilled at electronics assembly and repair.  One of his jobs in that capacity was working for ProMariner in Portsmouth as a technician. He was quite self sufficient, implementing solar and wind power systems where he lived, having also drilled a shallow well for water.

He loved the farm, facing the meadow, near the Great Works River, and where he could more recently pursue a simpler life, repairing audio, electronics items, along with small engine equipment.

Chris enjoyed playing classical piano, and as young man was even encouraged by a respected classical piano instructor to enter a young pianist competition. However, he was not inclined to make public performances, so his vivid performances of the works of Mozart, Bach, Rachmaninoff, and others were reserved for himself or immediate family.  He also enjoyed creative photography and was a nature lover.  At right, in a rare video, Chris performs a Chopin piece on the piano at home for a friend:

Chopin Étude Op. 10, No. 12 in C minor
 entitled: 'Revolutionary'

Chris has always been deeply loved and will be sorely missed by family relatives and friends.
The family is anticipating a memorial service in the late spring of 2021.

A memory of Chris, and as he might have wanted...

Do not stand at my grave and weep ...

I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
    Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

         - a poem by Mary Elizabeth Frye

Chris 4th Birthday

A misty, rainy day captured by Chris depicting the
view out his front door - one of his favorite scenes......

Chris grew up, and spent a good part of his life on a farm property next to the Great Works River. Family and friends that wish to do so, can make donations in his memory to the Great Works Regional Land Trust, whose mission is to preserve the lands, trails, and watershed areas in southern Maine.

Christopher enjoyed exploring night and evening photography.

made by Chris during the summer of 2020

of his father, David Blakeslee entitled -  "At Peace"
